1st graders learned about Alma Thomas last week. We first painted our papers with watercolor paints starting with a red circle in the middle. We then painted around the circle using the colors of the rainbow. Alma Thomas was an artist from Georgia who loved to use bright colors in her art work. Her paintings often looked like mosaics from the way she placed the paint on the canvas so the finial step we did to our paper was to add pieces of construction paper over the paint to complete our pictures. They did a great job!

SNOW!
Using food coloring and a snowy canvas, our 1st and 5th graders mixed primary colors to create secondary colors.
A visit from Mr. Richard
Recently, our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders were surprised with a visit from local musician/author Richard Gnann. Mr. Richard shared many songs with us. Some of the favorites were "If You're Happy and You Know It" (complete with crowd participation and props), and his original, silly song about his brand new shoes. "Zip, zip, zip...weeeee!"
Mr. Richard also shared his book, "Dreaming of the Redcoat Band", and left us an autographed copy for the library. Thanks to Mr. Richard for the visit, and we hope to see him again soon. For more information on "Dreaming of the Redcoat Band" (a book every Dawg fan should own), visit his website: http://dreamingoftheredcoatband.webs.com/
